Reserved Seating: How Interactive Seat Maps Work at Checkout
For a general-admission show, picking tickets means choosing a quantity. For a seated venue like a theatre or stadium, it means choosing exactly where you'll sit, and that's a very different checkout experience. Here's how reserved seating actually works on TicketsMinistry, from both sides of the booking.
How buyers pick a seat
- The event page loads an interactive map of the venue, sections colour-coded by ticket tier and shaded by availability.
- Tap a section to zoom in and see individual seats, sold seats are greyed out so you never select something unavailable.
- Selected seats are held for you with a countdown timer while you complete checkout, so they can't be sold to someone else mid-payment.
Reading the map: sections, tiers, and colour
Colour on the map maps directly to price tier, not just section name, a front-row VIP block and a side-view VIP block priced differently will show as distinct colours even if both say "VIP". Hovering or tapping a seat shows its exact price before you add it to your cart, so there are no surprises at the payment step.
Setting up a seat map as an organiser
You don't need to build the map yourself. Send over your venue's actual seating chart, whether that's an existing layout from a venue like Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre or a floor plan for a one-off setup, and our team maps it into an interactive layout with your ticket tiers applied, usually within a business day.
Accessible and companion seating
Accessible seating locations, wheelchair spaces, seats near ramps, aisle seats for easier entry, can be marked directly on the map so buyers who need them can find and book them without guessing or calling ahead.
What if my event doesn't need reserved seating?
Outdoor grounds, festival fields, and standing-room shows don't need a seat map at all, general-admission ticket tiers with a quantity selector cover that case, and the two approaches can even be combined, seated sections up front, general admission behind.
Have a seated venue?
Send us your venue layout and we'll build an interactive seat map with your ticket tiers, ready before tickets go on sale.
List Your EventA seat map does more than look good on an event page, it removes the guesswork from buying and gives organisers precise, tier-by-tier control over pricing across a venue.
